We are hiring one (1) full-time Permanent Biosolids Technologist, position working out of Gold Bar Wastewater Treatment Plant in Edmonton, AB!

What you’d be responsible for

 

Reporting to the Manager, Biosolids Operations, as the Biosolids Technologist you will be accountable for, but not limited to:

 

  • Assisting with the execution of the Nutri-Gold Biosolids program.
  • Site selection and field program scheduling.
  • Data management - including daily trucking logs, farm database information, and special projects data.
  • Assist with annual report writing.
  • Administrative and procurement program work.
  • Communicating with farmers to secure land availability for current and future seasons.
  • Coordinating hauling and field application between contractors and landowners.
  • Conducting site visits to assess field conditions and communicating with landowners to maintain good customer relations.
  • Work with outside contractors to ensure equipment is calibrated and maintained.
  • Working with various stakeholders, such as county officials to review road conditions, pipeline representatives to review crossings and neighboring clients to hear comments.
  • Exploring new technologies to improve the efficiency of the program.

 

What’s required to be successful

 

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications, experience and behaviors:

 

  • 2-year technical Diploma in Environmental Science from a recognized polytechnic institution.
  • 1-3 years of direct experience working in a water, wastewater, agricultural, and/or environmental setting.
  • The ability to manage projects that have both short and long term goals.
  • General understanding of biosolids management and the impacts of land application.
  • Intermediate computer skills and demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • A valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License 
    • Limited to 6 demerits or less by date of hire 
    • Drivers with a GDL class may be considered 
    • A Driver Abstract (5yr. Commercial type) will be required. 
  • Ability to qualify for and maintain a valid EPCOR driver's permit is required. 
  • Solid understanding of soil science principles.
  • Familiarity with GPS, GIS, and deriving information from map based databases would be considered an asset.
  • Membership to a professional organization, as a member or a member in training, such as Certified Engineering Technologist (CET), Alberta Institute of Agrologists (AIA), or Alberta Society of Professional Biologists (ASPB) would be considered an asset.

You are able to manage conflicting priorities throughout the day with minimal supervision and take initiative when completing tasks in a timely manner and to a high standard. You have a strong commitment to safety and have the ability to effectively work independently in a busy and occasionally stressful environment.

Starting Wage: $41.52  

  • Final wage placement will be determined at the time of selection and based on a combination of factors as outlined in the Collective Agreement (CA) that may be found online.) 

Hours of work: 75 hours bi-weekly
